New Forest National Park, Hampshire

The New Forest National Park Authority sees the New Forest as an ‘entry-level’ park, as it has relatively open and flat terrain, and its easy accessibility from London and other urban centres by road and rail make it both attractive and less intimidating for people who have not visited a National Park before. Over 13 million people visit the park each year, spending over £100 million.

This project involved three primary pathways to improving dementia-friendly activities which help people to explore the area and to experience the natural environment in active ways. These include:

The Park was keen to learn how to adapt provision and equipment for clients living with dementia and their carers, and teamed up with Dementia-Friendly Hampshire to reach out to people with cognitive impairment in the area.
